With Spring finally here, you won’t want to miss out on all of the beautiful nature that Tallahassee has to offer. In the coming weeks of school, there will be more and more opportunities to bring your studies outside of the classroom or library and into a new location. While there are several great places to take in some sun and study, here are the 5 best locations in Tallahassee for students to study in the sun.
#1: Cascades Park
Located just south of the Capitol Building, Cascades Park is a beautiful, 24-acre long park that comes to life during the spring. The vast, green fields make for perfect picnic or study set ups and there are three different walking and hiking trails to explore when you’re done with your studying. Also, Cascades Park is historically significant for many reasons, but mainly that there is a Prime Meridian Marker located within the park, meaning that Tallahassee’s original southeast border used to be that marker!
#2: Tom Brown Park
Tom Brown Park has pretty much everything you could possibly ask for in a public park. Named after famed Leon High School Baseball Coach Tom Brown, the park features several tennis courts, bike trails, a disc golf course, and a batting cage; these are all nice to have, but there are still prime study spots near Lake Leon in the park that make for a great study environment. Located off Conner Blvd, Tom Brown Park is the perfect place to spend a few hours in the sun while also being productive.
#3: Black Dog Cafe
Black Dog Cafe is located directly next to the beautiful Lake Ella, and features a sizable outdoor back patio for customers, making this the perfect study spot. The customers of Black Dog Cafe love their large selection of hot and cold drinks as well as the calming nature of the shop itself, so you can be sure there will be limited distractions from you and your work.
#4: San Luis Mission Park
Mission Park shares some traits with previously listed parks such as the dog park and the lake located within, but what makes Mission Park stand out is its size and niche. The park is not particularly big, but it doesn’t need to be as Mission Park is one of Tallahassee’s best kept secrets for some. Cascades Park and Tom Brown Park are going to most likely have a decent amount of people there due to the popularity of the parks, so if you are looking for a peaceful, serene park with limited distractions from the sun and your studying, then Mission Park might be the place for you.
#5: Landis Green
How could we forget about Landis Green? Centrally located on campus, Landis Green has been the number one place for Florida State students to enjoy time outdoors for decades. On a beautiful Spring day, there will most likely be dozens of people enjoying various activities at Landis Green, from throwing frisbees and footballs to tanning to people playing music: what more could you ask for?
