If you ask any college student, they will tell you that finals week can be the most dreadful week of the semester. As we near the end of the year, many students will have senioritis kick in. Some students may be trying to save their grades while others are hoping that their final doesn’t lower their already perfect grades. Regardless of what your case is, it is important to take care of your mental health, your post-finals week self will thank you! Check out the below for some tips on how to tackle the upcoming week.
1. Get some fresh air.
It is easy to get caught up with studying and writing papers. Don’t forget to take some breaks! Try going for a walk at your nearest park and breathe in some fresh air. Your brain can only handle so much, taking some time away will give you a fresh mindset for what you need to get done.
2. Reward yourself.
After turning in a project or an exam, treat yourself to something fun or yummy. This can mean something from buying a milkshake to buying yourself that thing you’ve had your eyes on all week to celebrate acing an exam.
3. Talk with some friends.
Call your bestie or grab lunch together! Odds are that your friends are also going through a stressful week during finals. Get together and talk it out while also grabbing a bite from your favorite lunch spot.
4. Make a list.
The week of finals can seem overwhelming when all you have is a mental to-do list. Try writing down everything that you need to do so you can visually see what needs to get done. If you make a list, you gain the satisfaction of crossing items off when you finish it.
5. Sleep!
Pulling an all-nighter to study for your final may seem like a good idea in the moment but it’s never a good idea. After rounds of studying and homework, give your brain time to recover and refuel. Sleep deprivation is just as bad for your mental health as it is for your physical health. Get those Zs in!
