Organization Spotlight: The Children's Campaign

Interview with Tiffany McGlinchey

- What organization are you a part of?

The Children's Campaign

- What is your current role?

Multimedia Communications Coordinator

- Can you explain the work your organization does?

The Children's Campaign is a non-profit, bipartisan, child advocacy organization. We seek to ensure children's futures are as limitless as their dreams through public education, advocacy, and community activism.

- What opportunities do you have available for students?

The backbone of The Children's Campaign is our internship program called The Apprenticeship Center, which consists of communication, public policy, and non-profit management teams. We have immediate openings on the communication team. The communication team oversees our social media platforms, message creation using our email software, and all graphic design content. Students in The Apprenticeship Center work 15-20 hours a week for a minimum of two semesters.

- How should students go about applying for these opportunities?

Please send an email to resumes@iamforkids.org and

  • Attach your resume

  • Attach two writing samples (we're not picky, just send two documents that show off your writing ability)

  • Attach two graphic design samples (preferred, but not required)

  • Specify which team you're interested in joining and the semester you would prefer to start

  • Specify your expected graduation date if it isn’t on your resume

  • Check your schedule and let us know that you can commit to 15 hours a week for two semesters

  • Are there any specific prerequisites (such as major, skills, previous experience, etc.) you look for in students?

- Are there any specific prerequisites (such as major, skills, previous experience, etc.) you look for in students?

Graphic design and writing skills are preferred, but not required. We're happy to provide opportunities to students of all levels.

- What qualities would a stand-out candidate have?

Above all else, we look for students with a passion for helping Florida's children and families. We're proud to create meaningful legislative changes to benefit those most vulnerable. Other than that, we're looking for someone who is a hard-worker, team player, dependable, and eager to learn.

- What will students gain by interning for this organization? How will this internship contribute to their professional growth?

On top of experiences to help build students' resumes, portfolios, and practical skill-sets, we also provide workforce development training. The Apprenticeship Center meets weekly with staff members to discuss resume enhancements, job search preparation, interview skills and other topics to help prepare interns to enter the workforce after graduation.

- Is there any other information you would like students to know?

Students in The Apprenticeship Center work 15-20 hours a week for a minimum of two semesters. All positions begin unpaid, with opportunities for growth starting the second semester. All interns will lead meetings and projects beginning their first semester. We do our best to customize assignments and projects to students' interests.
